One of my favourite things to jabber on about in the studio....
“How does it make sense to make yourself miserable to make yourself happier?”
In context…how will doing something you hate make you happy?
Everyone is different, everybody’s mind works differently, we are all unique.
Having said that though, in my experience, trying to force yourself to do something you don’t enjoy is not a sustainable way to achieve your goals. You might be one of the lucky people that can focus on what you want and achieve it no matter what but for the most of us we can make ourselves do something for so long and then add it to the list of things we tried that “didn’t work”.
So my advice is find something you don’t totally hate!!!
For example….I have tried to get into running more times than I can count over the years. Its great, your outdoors getting fresh air, I want to improve my cardiovascular fitness, I can even take the dogs / kids / prams to tick more boxes in one go! Problem….I absolutely do not enjoy it! It makes my planter-fasciitis unbearable, no matter how much I get into it I still feel like an out of breath lump pounding the tarmac and for someone that loves being out dog walking, horse riding in all weathers it just make me want to hibernate!! So I am a Personal Trainer that does not run, and I am perfectly happy with that!
(I do love a good headstand though 🤣🤸🏼♀️)
Equally if you hate quinoa, you don’t have to eat it…even if everyone else is!
One of the things I love most about my job is helping people finding what they enjoy and what makes them feel good. There is always another option. Different ways to get your cardio in if you hate running, different ways to get healthy food in if you don’t like the latest super food everyone is using, different ways to achieve your goals without making yourself unhappy while you are trying to achieve them. Which will ultimately make you smash them even faster!!!!!
